Flame warriors

Check out this very amusing taxonomy of personality types one encounters on the Net. Here are two types we're all very familiar with:

Ethnix is an extremely powerful Warrior who effectively exploits his minority status and the general nervousness about race to gain advantage in battle. Ethnix deftly wields his ethnicity and can instantly shift from defense to offense, keeping even the most skillful Warriors off balance. Impostor, covetous of his power, often impersonates Ethnix, but he can seldom maintain the ruse. While all Warriors are wary of Ethnix, he is most feared by Weenie.

There are two distinct varieties of Ideologue, conservative and liberal, but each being smug and self satisfied in his certitudes, they are really flip sides of the same coin. Though Ideologue's "opinions" merely represent a loose collection of intellectual conceits he is nonetheless astonished, bewildered and angered when his views are not immediately embraced as Truth. He regards honest disagreement as a form of cognitive dissonance that can only be cured by relentless propagandizing. The conservative iteration of Ideologue parades himself as a logical, clear thinker, while the liberal version trumpets his higher level of mental, spiritual and social awareness. Troglodyte is the natural ally of conservative Ideologue, and for liberal Ideologue it is Weenie. Whether conservative or liberal, Ideologue is a fierce, but very predictable Warrior

I put an entry under a previous blog, about Left & Right. I think it explains your observations.

I think it was April 14. Scroll down a bit.

Liberals need more troglodytes and fewer weenies. That's why the conservatives are winning. I do my best. (The Zizka you see here, believe it or not, is the nice Zizka).

zizka, i've seen your site-that is 4 shore!

I admire a lot of Mac Diva's work. I think that she's misidentified this site and has been unfair to Murtaugh and perhaps others too (Kevin Drum?), but most of the people she attacks deserve it (neo-Confederates, militias, neo-Nazis, Karl Rove, et al.) If she attacks me I'll deal with it as it comes up. Right now I'm playing both sides of the fence and I could get burned either way, but it's just virtual reality anyway.

There's plenty of stuff here that makes me uneasy, including the personal comments about Mac Diva (granted that there was provocation) and Steven Jay Gould, and also the discussions of Christine Aguilera and other babes and non-babes. (My message to most of you here is that if you end up marrying a spoiled blonde 38D mall princess you will be abundantly punished for all of your sins.)

A political angle I've been working on recently is that a lot of moderates and libertarians who are liberal-haters right now really should be conservative-haters instead. I've spoken before about how frightening I find the Bush core constituency (neo-Confederates, Armageddon Christians, neo-imperialists, and anti-tax wackos). But they're only about 30% of the electorate and Bush needs 20% more to get elected. Bush himself is part of the 30% and he caters to them, so the threat is not imaginary.

Maybe it is just male egotism, but I don't know how the math whizzes on Gene Expression missed how statistically rare (natural) busty blonds are in the population. Or that, because they are such a small group, few natural blonds will be sophisticated enough to properly understand their racial opinions and label them racist scumbags.

I came from a rural part of the country which is about 25% natural blond, so Uma Thurman looks like a farmgirl to me. To me she'd look quite natural in rubber boots slopping the hogs. (BTW her father really is a major scholar of Tibertan Buddhism, so she can't be too ditzy).

her father really is a major scholar of Tibertan Buddhism

...and her step-father was (briefly) Timothy Leary!

The power of liberal troglodytes is, again, confined to academia, a few areas of the arts, coffee-shops, copy-centers, residential-care centers, and other liberal-arts ghettos. And probably, to be fair, k-12 education (though that's a very mixed bag: even in 1990 even in liberal Portland there was a teacher in the public schools who said that women shouldn't work ouside the home).

If you look at major media the troglodytes are right-wing and the liberals are weenies.

I think that k-12 teachers will probably always be more left-leaning than the general population. Temperament (both as measured by Myer-Briggs and in a more general sense) correlates with both career choice and political affiliation. Of course there are interesting exceptions - the head of the science department in my high school (public) was a Creationist who could fairly be called ultra-conservative (he thought the Kent State shootings were basically a good thing).

Oh, and as regards busty natural blondes: I've already married one. A sweet blue-eyed blond-haired german-norwegian-american princess :-). So they do exist, though there is now one fewer in the pool... at least until our baby daughter grows up...

Well, I wasn't thinking about the natural kind.

Posted by: zizka at April 23, 2003 03:51 PM

i like small-chested blondes, 4 the record.

and about the talk about chix-well, what is it all about in the end???

Razib,
You've answered your own question in our correspondence. However, on a serious note I'll say as a Gene Expression female (the brave, the proud, and the few), that the locker-room talk is a major pet peeve. I tolerate it because I love these discussions, but I'd love to see it's frequency diminished.

My parents lived in a zen center in the same town Robert Thurman taught in back in the seventies, so they were friendly with him...according to them, Uma actually babysat for me one time, although sadly I have no memory of this brush with celebrity...
