Man bites dog

One of the weirdest stories I've ever read about - half black man becomes neo-Nazi activist. What a sick puppy:

In October 2002, I drove to the Plymouth County Jail to see Leo Felton. It was a bright fall Saturday, and the drive was long, so it gave me a chance to ponder what I already knew about him. I am a journalist for The Boston Globe, and Felton was an assignment, then he was a hobby, and then he became something else altogether. After his arrest for counterfeiting, robbery, and conspiracy to bomb what authorities said were Jewish or African-American targets, I had mapped out the paradoxes of Felton's life: how his mother, a white civil rights activist, raised him in a liberal, openly gay household. How his father, a black architect living in Canada, refused to believe his son had become a racist.

There was a similar case in Australia. Jack van Tongeren, responsible for a series of bombings of Asian businesses in Perth, recently released from prison and something of a godfather in the Aussie neo-Nazi movement, is half-Indonesian. Lumpenproles, all of them.

Update: NY TIMES Magazine has a profile of the black white supremacist.

Had one of those here in Sweden too - black guy named Jackie Arklöv got involved with a neo-nazi gang, and ended up in a bank robbery / shooting that killed two police officers.

The perils of radical intermarriage, obviously. The concept of marriage is nigh obliterated today.
Social agendas and political advantage work against marriage. There is some "virtual" marriage hovering around in the Collective Unconscious. However, when our consciousness goes to work, it seems we attempt to destroy the unconscious, it seems. The two do seem at war.

Hmmm ... parents divorced before the age of two, then brought up by two lesbians, mother eventually diagnosed with "bipolar disorder" ... think any of those might have caused a few problems?

Twenty years or so ago, the New York Times discovered that one of the top leaders (#3, I think) of the U.S. Nazi Party was Jewish, in fact a Cohen and so descended from the priestly line or caste or whatever exactly the Kohanim (sp?) are.

His parents knew he was a Nazi, but his fellow Nazis did not know he was Jewish. He killed himself the day the story was published. Someone told me there's a recent movie about him, but I don't recall the title.

There is a film out called 'The believer' about a the story of a jewish nazi alright, dont think its the same guy though. based on some true story or whatever too.

The name sounds familiar: if my friends have told me right, "The Believer" is about the same guy. Of course, it may be partly or mostly fictionalized.

The offspring of mixed marriages often adopt two different types of coping strategy to deal with their own 'identity' problem, created both because they're not sure "what" they are, and also because society is not clear "what" they are.

Strategy #1, is to shut off one part of one's ancestry. E.g., the part-black neo-Nazi, or Halle Berry thinking herself 'black', etc.

Strategy #2, is to identify with the common denominator of the two parts. That is what led to "white nationalism" in the USA as opposed to traditional European nationalisms, because people in the USA are of mixed European background and hence identify with the common denominator, i.e., "whiteness". Aryanism, as in the case of Savitri Devi ("Hitler's Priestess") (Greek-Italian-French-British) is the same principle. Another example, is a religious zeal for race mixture or the "one human race" that is often exhibited by people who are themselves of hybrid origins.

BTW there is of course Strategy #3 (which I think is the psychologically soundest one): to acknowledge one's hybridity rather than trying to pretend that the parts are the same (#2) or by turning a blind eye towards one of them (#1)

"The offspring of mixed marriages often adopt two different types of coping strategy to deal with their own 'identity' problem, created both because they're not sure "what" they are, and also because society is not clear "what" they are."

And you have empirical evidence of this?

>> And you have empirical evidence of this?

I don't have evidence for the relative prevalence of strategies 1-3. These are the only strategies that I have observed. If there is another strategy that I'm missing, please share.

A prevalent example of Strategy #1 is the self-definition of the mixed-race population of the USA as "black". I have observed strategy #2 among many "white nationalist" and "race mixture is a good" type of activists, although I cannot gauge its prevalence in the society.

BTW, Observation is empirical evidence.

You imply mixed marriages between Asian/European, European/East Indian, Amerindian/European and a multitude of other mixtures and not just mixed Negroid/European as when u state:

"The offspring of mixed marriages often adopt two different types of coping strategy to deal with their own 'identity' problem"

Then you base all mixed marriages on the assumption that they mimic the tendencies of one particular mixture (Negroid/European) in one particular country(The United States) when you say:

"A prevalent example of Strategy #1 is the self-definition of the mixed-race population of the USA as "black".

Dienekes, have you ever lived in an ethnically diverse country or were you brought up and raised in Greece? This question may be relevant if you are basing your evidence on personal observation.

Also:
"Another example, is a religious zeal for race mixture or the "one human race" that is often exhibited by people who are themselves of hybrid origins."

Is this religious zeal for race mixture seen only in intellectual "hybrid people" or in "hybrid people" in general? I have met quite a few "hybrid people" and they didn't seem to have a zeal for race mixture. They didn't seem to care. You ask them what ethnicity they are and they tell you whatever mix they are and that's that. This would indicate that, at least from my observations, most mixed people adopt strategy #3. Then again, most of the mixed people i met, weren't mixed Negroid/European.

To the blog members in general:
Is race/ethnic mixing good or bad? Although the effects of Hybrid Vigour has been established in all organisms, including humans, does this trump ethnic preservation? Is there utility in preserving the various races(population groups as ppopulation geneticists call them) and ethnicities or does it all come down to preserving aesthetics an ethnic values?
