How fun! I can’t wait for the day in the not-to-distant future when we have a fairly solid map of the geographical expansion of humanity.
The “Silk Road” (one of them, at any rate) fits neatly atop the distribution in the lower part of Figure 2.
PDF! Spare us. I always ignore those slow-loading monstrosoties and I doubt that I am alone.
PDF does take a while – but a lot of the really good, crunchy academic material is in that format. You’re missing out!

Steve’s article about Genghis Khan has sex, war, history, and genetics all in one article. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Thanks for this and the Sailer ref. too. I am mostly a left-wing ideologue but have a secondary interest in central Asia.
Fig. 2 could be interpreted simply as a report on Mongol affiliation though. The Hazara numbers fit with that.
The low Hui and Chinese Uighur numbers are odd. I have no ide what a Chinese Uighur is; a Uighur is a Turk in Xinjiang.
