Back when I was a kid I used to really enjoy reading books about Voyager, in large part because they were jam-packed with color pictures of the planets. Today you can get a lot of data and images just online…and I don’t check it out enough. We take so much for granted, in the 1930s artists sketched out their imaginings of planetary surfaces in pulp science fiction magazines…but today we can look at photos of the surface of Titan! Anyway, here are the Cassini-Huygens Top 10 Science Highlights.

  1. Thanks for that, Razib. How wonderful it would be if we could reduce the population, increase everyone’s intelligence and lifespan, curate the earth and its wildlife, make robots to be our servants, and spend our days enjoying our physical bodies and our friends, exploring the universe and trying to understand what is already known.

  2. i would think are you are joking if i didn’t know you were serious! but dittos.

In seriousness, thanks for sharing this. I remember clicking with awe and delight as the pictures came in that day from Cassini. I’ve had a beautiful image of Titan from some distance away as my desktop since then.

yeah, that’s the problem. i always forget to keep up on this stuff! i used to check the galileo site every week back in 1996.

  5. My three-year-old is obsessed with outer space. He already knows the planets and has a collection of space shuttles, rockets, etc. We’ve spent a lot of time online at NASA watching the launches and landings and the recent comet interception. Looking forward to the next shuttle mission!
