It’s a big blogosphere. Aziz points me Islam in China. They have an interesting post up which reiterates much of what I said about the diversity of Chinese Muslims, along with obscure facts such as that the second ranking Vice Premier of China is Hui. Not that there’s anything wrong it….

  1. Islam in China website is interested in converting Han into Hui (Muslim Han). I doubt their chance of success. Mongloians have extensive exposure of Islam. Yet they remain Buddism mostly. Northern Hans live side by side with Hui most time. Yet, most remain Buddism too. There is possible genetic explanation (genetic psychological profile) about such affinity to one religion over other.

Genetic study need to be done to analize Hui vs Han. I speculate Hui must have some trace of Turkish blood.

this is like speculating that black americans have european ancestry ;-) i really doubt there’s a genetic reason that groups resist islam. mongols had no problem with converting to islam when they live in areas surrounded by muslims (e.g., golden horde, hazaras, etc.). similarly, large numbers of hui in south china seem to have become han by losing islam.
