"If some people chose to focus all excess consumption into raising children they would come to dominate the population." Looks likely to happen over the next century or two, even without considering immigration in Western countries. Some small fundamentalist populations are growing very, very quickly. The USA might become mostly Amish 100-200 years from now :)
