Peregrinations
Thanks for letting us faithful readers know. I was pretty worried yesterday when it said "account suspended" and didn't have your e-mail to ask what was going on.
More than meets the Census worker’s eye
Thanks for pointing out these two papers. I'd always been under the impression that self-reported ethnicity was unreliable in certain highly admixed populations. Looks like I was both right and wrong. It will be interesting to see how admixture will change the genetic profile of populations over time in multi-ethnic countries like the U.S.
“Arguments worth having …”
Interesting points. Also wanted to tell you the link for helping Hurricane Katrina victims is a very good idea. I've added a similar link to my blogroll.

The abstract is available, full text + links costs $30.
Average male IQ greater than average female IQ
In any case, it's all averages. I'm still smarter than any guy I meet. ;)

scottm, Traditional mooncakes are hard and firm, unlike daifuku mochi which is soft like a marshmallow (love them too!). But new fangled mooncakes are sometimes made with mochi skin and others are even made of ice cream!
It's getting close to mid-autumn moon fesrival so mooncakes are plentiful in Asia right now. The Vietnamese (I currently live in Ho Chi Minh City) have a version stuffed full of fatty pork, sausage, salted egg yoke, shark's fin, green peas,...basically the whole kitchen sink. It's absolutely disgusting, but expensive and decadent. My helper and her family get all the ones we can't stand to eat.

Thailand Gets Serious About IQ
While I'm not completely convinced on the IQ debate, I'm all for addressing "disease, heavy-metal poisoning and malnutrition". My worry is if IQ scores don't go up after intervention. Will they abandon their programs? I'll just assume that officials also know that improving quality of life, increasing access to resources and information, and reforming the education system will also be needed.
Play with meiosis
Cute link.
BTW, razib, Thanks for adding me to the blogroll. I feel honored.
And, pssst, it's "proteomics" not "proteinomics". I'm sure it's just a typo on your part.

Wonder….
My three-year-old is obsessed with outer space. He already knows the planets and has a collection of space shuttles, rockets, etc. We've spent a lot of time online at NASA watching the launches and landings and the recent comet interception. Looking forward to the next shuttle mission!
