Multiculturalism

  • Dr Alvin Poussaint ? From Cosby Show? ROFLMAO!!!

  • A new ethnic classification

  • Lest we forget, such distinctions would not have been necessary a generation ago.

Therein lies the tragedy of Britain. They created this mess.

  • And I still don't understand how a once ethnically homogenous European nation as Britain with thousands of years of history willingly adopted multiculturalism as an ideology. I can understand this in the US, Canada or Australia or New Zealand... but Britain?

  • Yes, but reading the news makes me really question whether multiculturalism & immigration has benefited Britons in any way. I'd contend that Canada and Australia would most likely be poorer, but would Britain be any poorer or more prosperous today without immigration over the past 50 years? ... It's highly suspect. If anything, immigration has caused more problems in British society.

Also, visible minorities constitute barely 6% of the British population, yet from such media reports one would think Britain is being swamped by coloured hordes. Yet Canada & Australia have far higher proportion of visible minorities (close to 15%) but such alarmist reports are rare.

Are these offshoot societies inherently more receptive/better at integrating its immigrants? Or has it more to do with the quality of the immigrants themselves?(ie. More Chinese/Koreans/Vietnamese/Hindus in Canada and Australia vs. high black & Muslim population in Britain...) I don't read about race riots or about Porkies or shit like this in the papers. Yet by far most race-related articles relating to Britain are negative, whereas here you read articles about affluent Hong Kong-ers constructing monster homes and University admissions spots being swallowed by an Asian Invasion (fairly harmless in comparison, really).

So what's wrong with that jam-packed little island in the North Atlantic? And how has multiculturalism & immigration benefited the host population?

  • Could it be that (the most visible of) visible minorities in Britain are preodminantly Muslim, or that in Australia the minorities are Chinese/Vietnamese? Whereas in Canada (and in particular Toronto) you have a whole smargasboard of immigrants from all over the world - Italians, Greeks, Serbians, Jamaicans, Native Americans, Chinese, Koreans, Iranians, Pakistanis, Indians, Sri Lankans etc... In America immigrants=Hispanics, in France the North Africans, in Germany the Turks, in Australia the Vietnamese etc... in Canada they're from all over the place (black, brown, white, yellow...). Therefore you can't single out a single particular minority group as being particularly problematic (as in the UK) since they don't stand out as much, because's there such amazing diversity here and no one minority is singularly "dominant"?

Also, is there a reason why the fairly large Muslim community in Canada have been (by and large) fairly dormant, while in the UK they've been quite active? If the Muslims here wanted to turn Toronto into a "Londonistan", I'm sure they'd get catch major beef from the Chinese and Jamaicans and other minority groups (neglecting self-hating reticent Anglos). :-P Can't ever see that happening here...

  • Brown tiger

  • Malaysia is also 30% Chinese.

    Irrelevant, but interesting link: http://www.asianwhite.org

  • I believed I posted several months ago on Sri Lanka's potential to become the first Brown Lion (Lion being the symbol on its flag, although ironically the Tamil separatists there call themselves the "Tigers" ;-)) All the vital stats are there: Extremely Low fertility rate (it's at 1.9 now - below replacement level!) + high literacy rate + educated populace + decent infrastructure + being blessed with excellent geography and location. They don't have the crippling poverty or overpopulation of India. If they get this separatist mess worked out, Sri Lanka *could* take-off as a local economic powerhouse. A Mauritius 18 times over.

Anyway I happened to catch the film "Boys" this past weekend (the South Indian equivalent of American Pie?) and was floored by the level of Americanization over the past 10 years in South India/Madras. Sleek modern shopping malls, teenage girls in short tight skirts, Matrix style camerawork in one musical, a live 3-D animated Pixar-style character in another, the confluence of English and Tamil in everyday speech, adoption of Western forms of dress and conduct... very startling. Watch an Indian film from 10 years past and today and you'll see a remarkable contrast (progression?). We all have Narasimha Rao to thank or it. :-)

Back to the Sri Lanka/Singapore contrast, indeed - the cruellest irony of all is that Chief Minister Lee Kuan Yew, upon visiting democratic and newly independent Ceylon in 1964, said that he hoped that his nation would one day become like Ceylon. Today, Chief Minister Lee remarks "It is sad that the country whose ancient name Serendip has given the English language the word "serendipity" is now the epitome of conflict, pain, sorrow and hopelessness".

  • I concur with Chris W in that the cosmopolitan regions of America (the West coast, northeastern seaboard) have become Asianized. I believe Sailer commented that the Hispanic pop culture boom demographers and were forecasting in the 80s never materialized.

Look at what the kids are doing nowadays. Anime, Pokemon, Yu-Gi Oh, Japanese exported video games. Chinese restaurants and buffets have become ubiquituos. The increasing popularity of Yoga, martial arts, bhangra music (Punjabi MC is played at all the clubs), eastern mysticism, Asian film styles (Kill Bill being a prime example) etc... Hip, urban, trendy, cosmopolitan, America (and Toronto + Vancouver) are far more Asianized than Latinoized.

Pay no heed to Kipling's words... ;-)

  • Duende chimes in on guard rails

  • Jason:

    1) What is the level of educational attainment of the average Hispanic?

    2) What percentage of the American population is projected to be Hispanic within the next 50 years?

    3) Extrapolate. America is fast emerging into a custodial state, in which the small and shrinking cognitive elite cares for the low-IQ masses. Dysgenesis... (sigh)

  • Mauritius as an African model?

  • So what's the cause? Why has Mauritius been successful and built a dynamic and propsperous developed economy, despite all its handicaps (large black population, geography) while other majority Indian-expat societies like Guyana, Trinidad and Fiji are largely failures? If I am aware, all four nations draw their large Indian populations from low-caste coolie labourers imported by the British Raj from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and the "Hindi heartland".

    Mauritius is quite an anamoly.

  • If Iceland ceases to be ethnically homogenous, this will happen:

http://www.nextcity.com/main/town/10tower.htm (written by a Canadian Pakistani).

Now Iceland is being be forced to accept immigrants (and all the extra baggage???) Iceland is as close as it gets to a peaceful, prosperous haven of white bliss.

    Check this out:

    "Iceland Needs More Foreigners"

..."We need more people who are not like us and have different things to offer. If we do not have more foreigners to live here this country will stay as boring as it is now," says Thorgerdur Gunnarsdóttir.

So it's boredom that's the problem...

    "Building a New Society"

...The City Hall recently created a questionnaire to know what young Icelanders think about becoming a multicultural society, and distributed it in high schools. The result was shocking.

"They have a negative attitude towards foreigners living in Iceland," says Snjolaug Stefánsdottir, responsible for this survey and for the following project. "Their parents used to accept immigrants, but their points of view are changing", Snjolaug adds.

Yeah, it looks like Icleanders need ethnic-sensitivity training. But their notion is justifiable. I don't see what Iceland has to gain from accepting immigrants.

  • Why is it that Pakistani and Bangladeshi women don't work, while most Indian and Sri Lankan women do? And it doesn't appear as if these stay-at-home moms from relatively stable families are doing a particularly good job of child-rearing. Working Indian mothers seem to be doing a better job of raising their kids than their Pak/Bengladeshi counterparts. I'm still perplexed as to how two groups of similar racial & cultural backgrounds are faring so differently in British society.

The exception would be Ismaili East African Indians. Can anyone dig up statistics for this group? I'd also be interested in looking at the birth/fertility rates of these respective groups in Britain (and the US, Australia, & Canada).

I think dysgnenic breeding has the potential of posing problems of grave consequence...

    *Also:

"In spring 2002, the proportion of lone parent families was highest among the Mixed group, at 61% of all families with dependent children, followed by Black Caribbeans (54%)."

Seeing as how mixed relations are overwhelmingly BM-WF, sounds like a lot of black deadbeats? Interracial relationships of the BM-WF variety are overwhelmingly amongst the underclass. This is true from what I see in Canada also.

  • England is jam-packed as it is. Does it really need more immigrants?

  • There are no utopias

  • Even with increasing interracial marriage, I don't think such a colour-caste system ala. Brazil will ever come about in the US. As long as dark Asian Indians continue prosper, then fair skin won't necessarily be associated with privelege. And where exactly would yellow East Asians fit into this colour spectrum?

  • Foreign customer support SUCKS!

  • Don't think it's Hindi. Perhaps Godless knows another five-letter Indian language? Hint: Look south. ;-)

  • Cross-pollination

  • I have yet to see any other country - save India - develop a movie industry that compares to Hollywood in box office receipts. Music is more competitive, but let me see if I can find some stats...

I'm going way off-top topic here, but why are all the voices in Indian cinema dubbed over?

  • Green Tide at the Gates?

  • Speaking anecdotally: I live in a Toronto highrise with a high concentration of Pakistani and Bengali Muslims. I walk outside and what I see are fairly rotund women walking in shazeer-kameez pushing strollers with often 2 or 3 kids in tow. So yes, the high rate of natural growth coupled with the continued influx of Pak/Bangladeshis does concern me somewhat. It inhibits assimilation to a certain degree.

It all depends on the degree of assimilation of the kids they're producing - whether they adopt WASP ethos, or opt for African-American "gangsta/ghetto" culture (which would place them in permanent underclass status - there's a good poem on the discussion board about that), or become swept into radical Wahabbist fundamentalism (which would be absolutely devastating).

Will the second generation of Canadian Muslims become model minorities or social parasites? From my perspective, coming into contact with numerous South Asian Muslims on a daily basis, I don't think this Muslim crowd is like the Algerians wreaking havoc in Paris or the Lebanese rapists in Denmark, or the Turkish gangstas in Germany or the Pakistanis rioting in Bradford. Those immigrants were uneducated and unskilled. Canada, fortunately, does a fairly decent of screening and weeding out undesirables. Most of the South Asian Muslims I come across here came via the Gulf State-route (Dubai, Kuwait, Qatar) and are fairly well-educated and speak fluent accented English - though they're not nearly as affluent as the American South Asian diaspora. Not so sure about the Afghans though.

...But then the first-generation is usually quiet, law-abiding and acquiescent. It's the 2nd generation that experiences the "culture clash" and usually has/causes trouble. Still, the Muslims in Canada have been pretty quiet. But unlike in France or Britain or Europe where the Muslims have been around since the 60s, the Muslim community in Canada is still very young, and only just recently have they begun arriving (and breeding) in signifant numbers. So it'll take another 15-20 years to judge how well they adapt. I'm thinking this community will be fairly successful and influential.

  • Sorry to make these posts too Canada-centric but...Canadians have been blessed. Just look at where Canada is on the map. Canada has no mass illegal immigration problem to contend with. Europe only need look south and pray the exploding Muslim populations in the Mid-East and North Africa doesn't declare a collective Jihad on them. Even Australia is too close for comfort to surging Islamic Indonesia.

Canada need not worry about being swamped by Mexican illegals. And it has a whole ocean separating it from Africa and the Mideast. Not to mention its proximity to the rising dragons of Asia-Pacific (unlike, say, Europe). Canada can protect its borders at far less expense than America or Europe or even Australia (unless, of course, life becomes so unbearable in the US that Americans begins hopping the border en masse). ;-)

"It's like freakin' Compton here now (exageration)."

Toronto has a rising immigrant population. There's a general belief (misconception?) that more immigrants = more crime. Yet, unlike Paris or London, Toronto's crime rate is falling every year. In fact, Toronto has the lowest crime rate in all of Canada, and enjoys the distinction of being "The Safest City in North America". It's a peculiar phenomeon...Can anyone account for this?

    [Only 60 freaking murders/year for a metropolis of 4 000 000 where 50% of the population is non-white - this is remarkable. A racialist's worst nightmare] ;-)
