There's something wrong with that map. Look at New Mexico. Albuquerque should show up nice and bright. There's no concentration.

Asking the questions and then immediately caving under the pressure of "don't ask!" has certainly damaged the scientific endeavor.

Ad-Aware isn't an anti-virus program, and even anti-virus programs (AVG is a free one that you might use) aren't 100%. A reinstall is generally the only way to be sure.  
 
A reinstall would also fix any driver issues, etc., that might have caused the problem.  
 
And if it doesn't work, you can be sure that the problem is hardware. There are laptop places that will clean out keyboards for you...but really it's probably toast at that point without a warranty.

Before buying a new laptop, reinstall Windows. You may have picked up some malware. 
 
Could just be a keyboard that is on the fritz though. 
 
My Compaq Presario doesn't turn on reliably (I think there's a heat sensor on the motherboard that is wonky), so I bought a Thinkpad to replace it. The cost of a new motherboard is nearly the value of the laptop.

I love Fagles' translation of the Iliad. There was a New York Times Book review when his Odyssey came out that addresses your question of textual fidelity. It claimed he was faithful to the text compared to Pope (but that's not saying much). 
 
If you really want to know, find Lang, Leaf, and Myers' prose translation of the Iliad and compare Fagles' with that. I have heard that Lattimore's translation really captures the ancient Greek. I have his New Testament.
