non-ideological centre-right makes more sense than libertarianism, whatever works rather than slash and burn, although in america centre-right is more associated with religiosity i guess. i think the french have some decent, non-ideological energy policies and that state health care isn't the worst thing in the world.

libertarians have a tough time with national interest questions like energy security, mass immigration, or questions of general behavior etc. that's why i'm centre-right, albeit much further right than most europeans, but not as insane as many americans. eg energy security - dogmatic free-marketism leads to reliance on foreign sources,, while the french statist nuclear approachh now accounts for 80% of their supplies. greg cochran says he would support using the army to steal food from other countries if the situation warranted it. from a national interest conservative perspective this is justifiable, but from a libertarian perspective?

i first happened on this problem in college. i joined an internet dating site, like most guys, for sex and nothing else. so, again like most guys, i had only the most basic of standards for potential partners, and decided that the best strategy would be to just proposition everybody. i of course thought this was an ingenius plan. but nobody responded, even girls well below my own league looks wise. then i realized - EVERY guy is doing what you are doing! most girls have a list of like 40 guys who are interested, more if they're under 25 years old, so obviously they aren't gonna go for a penniless student. as agnes poirer points out in the above article, really rich alpha males are the only real beneficiaries of online dating on the y-chrome side.

In fact women are probably even choosier at speed-dating events than normal, as what usually happens is that men just tick the box of every woman they meet, giving women an enormous choice. I understand that scattergun poking by men on online dating sites artifically inflates plain-jane female egos as well.

judges decide everything in this area. rich judges who live away from it all and are

re the general question, it's odd all right. one would expect democracies to be viscerally anti-immigrant, given that most people in every country ever are opposed to immigration of, well, anyone. yet this doesnt happen, possibly because the farcical nature of democracy makes governments incredibly short-sighted about demographic trends etc, as they're only in for 4 years and won't be around in 30. an absolute monarch would probably care more about demographics than your average democratically elected politician because they own their country like a corportation or a family, and care about who their heirs preside over and the who comprises the members of the big national family.

OK, there's nothing wrong with targeting sluts per se, and in a world of limited information it makes sense to go with impressions, stereotypes about groups etc. But obviously what these rats did was reprehensible. 
 
Are the girls concerned really so naive that they believe they are entering into long term 'love' relationships, or are they just out for a good time too? If they are that naive, whose fault is that? If they are too young to understand but are still out on the streets, whose fault is that?  
 
 
This is a very sad and terrible fact - many girls from foster homes and orphanages etc are incredibly easy and openly pursue much older men. A friend from college once worked at a summer camp for underpriveledged children 12 or so up, and said that many of the girls from orphanages repeatedly propositioned the male workers and slept with the other males on the campsite. The lack of a stable male figure in their lives, always being moved around, or living in dorms their whole life, led them to try anything to get a man who would take them away from it all. It's pretty tragic, they aren't acting like that for a 'good time', but for the hope of a better life.

I agree with you, we are talking about two very different things. My first post was about young males who will try to hit on whoever they think they have most chance with.  
 
The article is about something very different - adult men targetting and preying on vulnerable underage girls in foster care. The police reponse that they are not taking action against this kind of activity when it is being perpetrated by men from one particular cultural group out of fear of being labelled racist is absolutely disgraceful, and any police officer making that excuse should be publicly pilloried and hounded out of office. 
 
But if anyone thinks that some adult white males are not capable of that kind of criminal activity for cultural reasons they are deluded - remember Gary Glitter in Cambodia? Think he was a one-off? What do you think the stereotypical attitude is of white men towards Southeast Asian women? 
 
If the cultural attitudes are resulting in high numbers of cases of this being done by a particular group, then all the more reason for (i) the police to take action, (ii) the immigration authorities to pay attention, but also (iii) for the adults responsible for the care of young girls to look after them properly, which they should be doing in any case - criminals prey on vulnerable targets. 
 
'Profiling' is a dirty word in politically correct circles, but it's one of the ways police have to do their job to be effective, British, Cambodian, Thai, Vietnamese, Filipino and Indonesian police included. 
 
To paraphrase Henri, there is no need for people to guess at the motives and beliefs of these (liberal Western) men towards (Southeast Asian) women. Just ask them; they'll tell you. 'Otherness' does indeed help to objectify and degrade.

So an Asian guy would stop himself from having sex with an Asian girl for the honor of the community?  
 
just to clarify: muslims have done this to non-muslim girls in the UK. in fact, there were reports of a fundamentalist group which would ensnare these women take pictures of them in "compromising" positions and blackmail them into converting to islam (or else they'd circulate the pictures and ruin the family's reputation).
