She So Hot
Yes, this really makes sense. I remember, especially in my youth, when confronted with a real hot, sexy girl, there would a reduction of blood flow to my brain along with significant cognitive decline. Of course it was evident where it (the blood) all went.
IQ & heart disease
I don't know much about stats and such, but wouldn't you have to control for factors such as race, IQ and coronary heart disease (CHD) factors?
I believe that African-Americans suffer from CHD at a significantly higher rate than other racial groups and that they are more likely to suffer a fatal heart attack. African-Americans also have a lower IQ on average, and since IQ and socio economic status have a strong correlation, wouldn't the study be skewed?

Measuring the shelf-life of student interest in their subjects, using Google Trends
True curiosity is not a very common trait. Thus most college students are more interested in a degree than they are in an education.
Measuring whether a painter is under or over-valued
For those who are into figurative and/or abstract expressionism, take a look at Richard Diebenkorn. His Ocean Park series of simple but large scale paintings of geometric washes with horizon lines are inspiring. His earlier figurative paintings are reminescent of Hopper.
IQ and “conventional wisdom”
Apparently the black/white gap was decreasing for a short period of time in the 1960's and 1970's but has actually widened in recent years due to dysgenic reasons e.g., 58% of black births were to mothers who are below average intelligence versus 50% of white births.
Check out the video below of Murray and Flynn discussing the subject.

Your religion is false
From my perspective, religion and left-wing ideology have at least one thing in common: they are both faith-based.
Virginity & heritability
How come nobody has made the "celibacy is not hereditary" quip?
Evolving to become more miserable?
Agnostic
I see your point and you're right. The studies all show long-term regret. I should have read them before commenting. I apologize.
I have a hunch though that no matter how one lives his life - whether impulsively and hedonistically or by employing exemplary self control and restraint, there are always regrets.
Is it possible that regret is simply our genes in conflict with one another? Regretting not sleeping with more women, at least from a evolutionary basis, seems logical. Could that be at the core of many of these complaints?

I understand your point, and you're right. The studies indicate long-term regret and I should have read them prior to commenting.
Could it be that regret is simply a result of our genes in conflict with one another - a collision of competing interests? Regretting not sleeping with more women would seem to be fairly common and could be at the core of many of these complaints.

Jason Malloy is correct.
Planning, employing self discipline, deferring or delaying gratification, controling impulses, laboring to educate yourself are admirable traits that eventually lead to less stress and less regrets in life.
As a retired senior I can truthfully say that everything I have of any value (and I don't necessarily mean material things) took some sacrifice to obtain and to keep. The regrets were mostly things that I said or failed to say.

Mandatory genetic screening?
Hopefully, one day it will be a matter of routine for couples to voluntarily be tested before considering parenthood. That would be the truely unselfish and responsible thing to do.
Younger people accept evolution
Thrasymachus
Those are elegant words, and well thought out. Humanity needs some kind of religion, doesn't it?

What men & women what
The older I get, the more I get like my wife who is getting more like me. But we're aging together and finally becoming more like ourselves.
When I was a moron
Rich Lawler has it exactly right.
I'm a senior who, after continually learning of my errors, spends much of my time attempting to rectify, rationalize or repair thoughts and statements that I made only yesterday.
You're showing wisdom.

Genes and Social Networks
There's quite a few people who complain of the conditions that they voluntarily create for themselves and wish things were otherwise e.g., loners who are lonely, rude people who have no friends, people who seem to have chronic "bad luck" with marriages.
That's what makes this subject so interesting and the imput from all of the very intelligent people on this site so stimulating.
There are a lot of profound philosophical issues at stake here.

Judith Rich Harris says that people tend to ultimately create their own environment through the process of myriad decisions throughout their life. People read what interests them, they associate with people in which they can relate, and they vote with their feet.
The end of envy
Isn't economics considered the "queen of social sciences?" (see Consilience by E.O. Wilson). I don't know many who think it is a true science.
So, if it's not a science, it must be an art - and since art reflects culture, but culture may reflect biology ...? Now I'm getting confused.

Why do we want to know?
Paradoxically, it's probably the first step in helping rabid culturalists to effectively construct an egalitarian utopia. See, sometimes those hardcore genetic determinists can be useful.
Mixed Ethnicity Families in Britain
Everyone has to eventually choose his race, his ethnicity, and even his tribe. Isn't that human nature?
To be mixed means to be mixed.
To be mixed means to be mixed.
Ethnic differences in morality
Not trying to be funny or facetious (I'm a student of human behavior), but could someone answer my question.
Is Haidt saying that as scientist uncover details of the human genome, they will soon discover that certain kinds of behaviors/personalities found in specific races/ethnic groups will be attributed to the genetic traits of that group? In other words is he saying that some racial/ethnic sterotypes have genetic validity?
