The Rabbi's Granddaughter

Can you believe that this is the culmination of the mating choices of generations of rabbis???

man she's really starting to age, look at those crows feet

Posted by: scott at April 5, 2003 09:44 PM

I feel like an idiot for asking, but who is she?

Posted by: Rajon at April 5, 2003 10:33 PM

she's still gorgeous :) i don't see any age setting in yet...

Very Aryan indeed!

That's Gwyneth Paltrow, former GF of Brad Pitt and mediocre actress. The last movie I can remember she was in was "shallow hal"

Posted by: scott at April 6, 2003 09:31 AM

Gwyneth Paltrow is the perfect Englishwoman. Snobby, cold and verbally facile. Shallow, emptyheaded, smart-mouthed bratty blonds are England's specialty.

damn duende-
You risk excommunication from this blog if you rip on razibs dream-woman.

Posted by: scott at April 6, 2003 05:55 PM

Excommunication? I think ostracism is more to the great man's liking. Excommunication smacks of piety.

Hey, Scott, you missed me practically tearing up Razib for having the audacity to think Christina Aguilera was attractive. I'm still here and still think she's a horse face (which she is, BTW)!

Duende -

Umm - you are aware she's not English, aren't you?

Posted by: jimbo at April 6, 2003 06:59 PM

well-some of her relatives live in britain-but yeah, lived in LA then NYC, and back to UCSB for college....

-R, don't bring up the christina too...that's too "dirty" :)

Posted by: razib at April 6, 2003 07:26 PM

There was an SNL skit where they made fun of Gwyneth pretending she was from England. I guess her accent-using roles in "Shakespeare in Love" and "Sliding Doors" gave people that impression.

Gwyneth is one of those chicks who doesn't have that impressive breasts but is still highly impressive nonetheless. I think Brad Pitt married a less attractive woman in Jennifer Aniston.

Posted by: -R at April 7, 2003 01:11 AM

Yes, I'm aware that she's not English. When I was in London about half my friends thought she was English until I set them straight. She is MUCH more popular in Britain than America, which enabled me to clarify why I don't like her: for the same reasons I frequently dislike high class, educated (or at least degreed) English. The English intelligentsia is always ready to believe that glib accents and shallow word games are the zenith of human achievement. Thus, we have Gwyneth Paltrow: a clever mannequin who is cut off at the neck from any deep experience of adult femininity.

Posted by: duende at April 7, 2003 07:31 AM

Well, IMO, she seems like a perfectly nice girl, but there's just something... missing there. She's like Helen Hunt - a sort of yuppie cipher, seemingly untouched by actual emotion. (And I'm an episcopalian from Connecticut, so I know whereof I speak...)

Posted by: jimbo at April 7, 2003 05:22 PM

helen hunt, 3/4 methodist, 1/4 jewish. but what a neck gwyneth has...swanlike....

Posted by: razib at April 7, 2003 05:46 PM

Nah, Gwyneth's neck surpasses the swanlikeness into spindliness.

Posted by: duende at April 8, 2003 08:06 AM

Good God, people. It's a comment. Generations of rabbis...Gwenyth Paltrow...get it? Generations of rabbis also produced Karl Marx.

Poor Gwyneth!!
Well, I think she's a good actress(not great but good). Ok, I haven't seen Shallow Hal (not really looking forward to seeing it, to be honest!) but, hey, nobody's perfect. I like her long neck, I think she's graceful. Yeah, some people call it being cold. Oh, well... is being smart and chic necessarily snobby???
And she has a good voice, I think.
Maybe you guys are a little biased cos you dislike her style...
