Jews leaving the Democrats in droves? This article provides further analysis of the rumblings heard on the Jewish left since the April/May violence in Israel. I think we are going to see a politically seismic shift of mainstream Jews to the Republican party, a move which will cripple the Democrats financially. What caused this shift? Superficially, it was the Republican support for Israel during a time of crisis. But more importantly, it's because the Jews have shifted from "victim" to "oppressor" in the public eye. As I said back in April:

The reason that Anti-Semitism is now a Leftist phenomenon is because the Left is the party of the perceived underdog . When Jews were victims of the Nazis, the Left was on their side. Now that the Jews are strong compared to the Palestinians, the Left is no longer with them. Of course, these are first-order approximations of the true situation. While Jews were certainly victims in Europe, in the United States they have been very successful once the discrimination against them in college admissions was eliminated. It would be incomplete to characterize them as underdogs. Conversely, while Israel certainly has the strongest military and economy in the region, this ignores the fact that it's a tiny country surrounded by nations that would like nothing more than to push it into the sea. Characterizing Israel as a bully ignores the fact that it's in a fight for survival.

I used to wonder why Jews would support socialist policies when their high IQ enables them to thrive in a capitalist meritocracy.
