After my post, Do Colored People Exist if There Are No White People to Observe Them?, I’ve gone to finishing up The Making of Modern Japan (I’d stopped about halfway through my read). One interesting aspect about Japanese history during the Tokugawa period is that though the nation was relatively isolated from European influences, there was much more interaction with Korea and China.
